    Ingredients for BBQ Chicken Pizza

This is all the ingredients needed to make homemade BBQ chicken pizza.

A birds eye view of all the ingredients needed to make this recipe with labels included.
    • pizza dough  - store-bought or homemade, room temperature
    • BBQ sauce - store-bought or homemade. I have an awesome Easy Homemade BBQ Recipe, or my favorite to buy is Tessemae's organic BBQ sauce.
    • chicken - cooked and shredded or diced.
    • mozzarella cheese - shredded or use fresh mozzarella cheese and slice it.
    • garlic powder - brings a slightly sweet flavor.
    • basil - brings a fresh, sweet, and slightly peppery flavor.
    • oregano - adds a bold, pungent, and earthy flavor.
    • red onion - diced, provides a sharp, pungent, and slightly sweet contrast.
    • green onion - diced - (optional topping)

How to make pizza using a pizza stone

Step 1 - Put the pizza stone in a cold oven. Preheat the oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Let the pizza stone heat for at least 30 minutes once the oven reaches the desired temperature. Place your chicken in a large saucepan, season with your favorite spices, and cover with 1 inch of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and cover with a lid, and let simmer for 10 - 15 minutes.

Step 2 - Remove from the stove and let it rest for 5 minutes, then shred using 2 forks. Once the chicken is shredded, toss it with the BBQ sauce. Set aside.

Steps one and two of the cooking process to make this recipe.

Step 3 - On a lightly floured surface, place your pizza dough down and roll it out using a roller until it forms about a 12 - 14-inch circle. Place the dough onto a baking sheet or cutting board dusted with flour and lightly brush the outer crust with the olive oil.

Step 4 - Assemble the pizza, add a layer of BBQ sauce, then the seasonings, then the cheese, top with BBQ chicken, and lastly sprinkle with diced red onion.

Steps 3 and 4 of the cooking process to make this recipe.

Step 5 - Carefully slide the pizza onto the pizza stone. Bake 8 - 12 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

Step 6 - Remove from the oven and let sit 2 - 3 minutes. Slice and Enjoy!

    Substitutions and Variations

Mozzarella Cheese - swap out mozzarella for part-skim mozzarella or gouda, which would be delicious!

Chicken - if you want to try a different protein option, then swap out the chicken for shredded turkey or some chickpeas for a vegetarian option.

    Tips and FAQ's

    Top Tip!

Don't over-sauce the pizza! BBQ sauce burns easily.

    Always preheat the stone!

This is non-negotiable for the added crispiness.

Should I use room temperature dough?

Yes! Cold dough is harder to stretch and more likely to tear. Let your dough sit out 30 to 60 minutes before shaping.

    How to store leftovers?

Store your leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
