Air Fryer Avocado Fries are super crispy on the outside and have a buttery creamy inside. They make the perfect healthy snack or side dish!

Here is another delicious meal that I made using avocados. Avocados are considered a healthy fat and you need healthy fats in your diet. They are great because they are filling and won't leave you feeling guilty!

I have been eating them as a healthy snack all week. They also make a great side dish to my Black Bean Vegetarian Burgers or served as a healthy appetizer.

This avocado air fryer recipe is going to be your new favorite way to eat avocados. Avocados are available all year round like most fruits and veggies are, but January through March is the best time of the year for flavor!

It is during this time of year that the avocado produces that buttery flavor we all love because of the higher oil content.

A birds-eye view of all the ingredients you will need for air fryer avocado fries with labels included.
    Ingredients for this dish!
    • avocados - skin peeled off and pit removed -put the avocado in your hand and squeeze it, if it gives way to your squeeze then it's ripened.
    • panko breadcrumbs - panko breadcrumbs give a crispier outcome to your fries than regular breadcrumbs do. They also soak in excess oil.
    • flour - your choice of flour, but I like using almond flour or whole wheat flour for this recipe.
    • egg - lightly beaten
    • chili powder - this spice is mildly spicy. It reminds me of a Tex-Mex flavor.
    • paprika - this spice has a mild, sweet, and almost vegetable like taste.
    • garlic powder - garlic powder is made from dehydrated cloves. The flavor is garlicky and sweet.
    • onion powder - tastes sweet and savory with more onion flavor than an actual onion does.

    How to make this meal

Step-by-Step directions for making super crispy avocado fries.

Step 1 - Slice your avocado. - click on the link for full pictures of how to slice an avocado.

    • First, hold your avocado in your non-dominant hand. Hold a knife and cut around the outside of the avocado lengthwise using your dominant hand.
    • Next, remove the pit by scooping it out with a fork or a spoon.
    • Then, hold one-half of the sliced avocado in your non-dominant hand, and using your dominant hand, slide a fork or spoon around the inside of the skin and outside of the avocado removing it from the skin.
    • Repeat the skin removal from the second half the same way you removed the skin from the first half.

Step 2 - Slice each half into 4 or 5 slices, lengthwise.

Steps 1 and 2 of the cooking process to make this recipe. Step 1 is removing the skin and pit from the avocado and step 2 is slicing the avocado into 5 pieces.
    Steps 1 and 2

Step 3 - Prepare your assembly line. In one dish combine flour, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and chili powder. In a second dish beat your egg and season with salt and pepper. In a third dish have your panko.

Step 4 - Lightly spray the bottom of your air fryer with cooking spray. Dip each slice of avocado in the flour mix, then the egg, then the panko. Push down in the panko to be sure it really sticks then lay your avocado on the bottom of the air fryer. Repeat until all slices have been used.

Steps 3 and 4 of the cooking process to make these fries. Step 3 is putting together the assembly line and step 4 is breading the avocado with panko breadcrumbs.
    Steps 3 and 4

Step 5 - Make sure your slices aren't touching in the air fryer. Air fry at 375 degrees for 5 minutes. Flip over and cook for another 3 minutes at 350 degrees. May need to cook in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.

Step 6 - Remove from the air fryer and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Steps 5 and 6 of the cooking process to make avocado fries. Step 5 is laying the fries on the bottom of the air fryer and step 6 is serving them with your favorite dipping sauce.

How to make avocado fries without an air fryer

Okay, so you want to try these creamy and crunchy avocado fries, but don't own an air fryer. Don't fret, it can still be done! Simply follow all steps leading up to the air frying. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then lay some parchment paper down on a baking tray and bake your fries for 10 to 12 minutes or until crispy and browned.

    Substitutions and Add-ins

Here are a few swap ideas for making easy avocado fries!

Panko Breadcrumbs - feel free to use any type of breadcrumbs that you desire. Regular breadcrumbs would work just as great, but I find panko to give the fries a crispier crust.

Flour - you do not need flour, but it helps to bind the breading easier to the actual avocado. If you choose to omit the flour, add the seasonings to the panko and then dip your avocado into the egg and then straight into the breadcrumbs.

Parmesan Cheese - Feel free to sprinkle a little parmesan cheese into your panko mixture for some added flavor.

    How can the kids help

This is a great recipe to include your kiddos on. Kids love to get dirty we all know. After slicing the avocado and setting up the breading station, have your kids help you coat the avocados.

They can easily dip each avocado slice into the flour, egg, and then panko.

    Tips and FAQ's

How can you tell if an avocado is ripened?

Put the avocado in your hand and squeeze it, if it gives way to your squeeze then it's ripened.

The best way to store avocado fries is in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. You can also squeeze lemon juice on top of them to help them from turning brown.

Add your already-made avocado fries to the air fryer and heat them up at 350 degrees for 3 to 4 minutes.

You can really serve them with anything you like. When I eat them as a healthy snack I eat them alone and just dip them in my favorite sauce. They can be served as a side dish at a BBQ like you would any French Fry recipe! My favorite dipping sauce at the moment is Tessemae's Organic Classic Ranch!
